2013 - Russian Elitist Doom Kitty

I bought a copy of "Dirty Russian", which is a phrasebook full of Russian slang and profanities. I came across the phrase "Posers really annoy me" and it tickled me so much I had to illustrate it. Here is Behemoth the Russian Elitist Doom Kitty :)

2013 - Huddersfield -Russian Animal Book Project

Above are the finals I created for my project. The outer leeve, inlay and four finished illustrations as examples of the content of the book.

I found this project challenging but definately the most enjoyable of the year. Although still very much my style, I've definately changed in how I draw to be more child friendly and I would certainly consider attempting another children's book project - especially an educational one like this, as this is the subject area that tends to be ignored by contemporary illustrators.

2013 - Huddersfield - Russian Animal Book Project

For the final project of the year I decided to create a book designed to teach young English children the names of animals in Russian, as I find educational books somewhat lacking in quality, for illustrations. My aim was to create a book that was simple to navigate, engaged both younger and older audience and drew heavily on Russian design mixed with my style.

Here is the inlay for the book and some page borders which I created by taking inspiration from patterns found in Russian folk art and textile design.

2013 - Huddersfield - Lucipurr Screen Prints

During the sessions we had at Hot Bed Press in Salford I created a tiny limited run of four two-colour prints. It was great to experiment with stenciling, as I had only ever created one colour prints in the past.

I have kept the original oiled image. so if I get the opportunity over Summer, I can reproduce this design onto tote bags or t-shirts.

T-shirt Designs I Wish Existed.

I'm really fed up of the current fad of wearing t-shirts that say "Geek", "Dork" or "Nerd" on them for ironic hipsters or fashion obsessed youngsters to wear in an ironic manner. If you're going to wear a clique or label in an ironic manner can't we go beyond the realm of insults for bright or unpopular people. What about labels that are funnier, or perhaps something really offensive?

Here are some tshirt slogans I'd be happy to model.

2013 - Huddersfield - Lucipurr Screen Print Design

We were offered the chance to do some screen printing sessions this month and as I haven't screen printed for a good two years now, I thought it would be good practice and signed myself up.

I'm not sure what we're printing onto yet, so I came up with a design that would look good as a paper print or on t-shirts or tote bags.

I'm really excited to print it!

2013 - Business Card Design Ideas

Some simple business card designs for the shop where I currently work. We've decided on a girlier colour and design and to do leaflets instead.

Russian Illustration/ Foxes

For my current university project I will be looking at Russian Children's Illustration and Animal Illustration. I found these two lovely blog posts combining two of my favourite things - Russian Illustration and FOXES.
Wonderful examples of artwork here and I now know a few more names than I did before!

First Digital Painting - Fox and Wolf

I finished the digital painting I started a few weeks ago tonight. It's still quite crude but not bad for one of my first attempts. Hopefully I'll improve with time. For now I still prefer fineliners and paper!

"To My Deerest" Valentine's Day Card - Finished Product

Posted this out to my friend earlier so she can give it to her fella tomorrow :)
I hate that my printer is the worst but I still think it came out quite well, and I really liked the simple heart design to spice the envelope up a bit.

First Experiences With A Tablet

Today my Wakom Bamboo arrived in the post and I've had a play around today. I'm hoping once I get to grips with it, that it will speed up my process when editing scanned images and I hope to be able to create images digitally too. I've begun on a piece depicting a wolf holding a fox in a dreamy lalala landscape. Below are printscreens of my background , linework for my characters, base colours for my characters, shading for my characters and all layers together for my characters.

Considering it's my first time using one and I'm a technophobe - I'm not doing as bad as I thought I would be!

"Worship/Destroy" Valentine's Day Cards

Here are some Valentine’s Day card designs I have made for the less /aromantic and more sexually orientated of us.
They’re designed to go in pairs and there are four designs to suit both hetero/queer couples.
